Jesus speaks the new commandment after washing His disciples’ feet and after Judas leaves the supper. Elsewhere, He joins love with peacemaking, direct responsibility, truthful confrontation, and action toward enemies.

Forgiveness does not grant permission for continued harm. Reconciliation may require truth, boundaries, outside help, separation, or lawful protection.
